No matter the reason you want to know more about Finland and Finnish social-life and etiquette, you have come to the right place to learn what not to do, as I have learned by making my fair share of mistakes.
As a foreigner living in Finland, I have discovered that life here is not very much different from other countries but my idea is to tell you about the things that I have discovered are different here.
This is not a Homepage based on facts about Finland as a country, there are lots of other pages that can provide for that and some of them are mentioned in the links section. This is a page dedicated to learning to socialize with the Finns on their own terms, in their accustomed own way.
I am not claiming to be an expert on Finnish etiquette, and the things I mention on these pages are in no way generalisations or the only right way to behave or do things right. I still am learning new things about this country but not as many new things any longer everyday. Some days I even get by without doing anything wrong or peculiar at all in the eyes of the natives.
These tips are just some of the things I have observed that have made my life much easier in my everyday life her in Finland. As well as my skills in the local language have improved during the years, so also has my knowledge about this country grown as I do not have to rely on others to translate to be able to understand things anymore.
